Le Mont Saint Michel
Every generation has felt compelled to describe it anew, yet none has exhausted the subject. Fortress, monastery, village and island, it continues to inspire the same astonishment today that it inspired Hugo, Maupassant and Adams more than a century ago. As the tides erase the boundary between land and sea, the Mount itself remains one of Europe's most unforgettable works of both nature and human imagination.
